“You are the rose of my heart,
You are the love of my life.
A flower not fading nor falling apart,
If you’re tired, rest your head on my arm.
Rose of my heart.”
Both Kit and Sean grew up in Western Massachusettes and wanted that feeling of “home” wherever they decided to hold their wedding. They both feel that where they were raised shaped them into who they are today and that their shared appreciation of the outdoors and small-town life brought them together. Their decision to have their wedding at Kit’s family home gave them the opportunity to share who they both truly are and the beauty, love, and simplicity of their home with the people they treasure the most.
They met in 2004 at a high school dance. Both went with other dates, but they left that night with each others screen names. The two IM’d throughout high school and a bit of college, a T9 text was sent every now and then, and it’s debated if a movie date was made, and then later canceled. Their lives took them around the world, to full-time jobs, and they lost touch with one another. Then on Thanksgiving night in 2015, Kit was doing what any single lady with a full tummy of turkey dinner would do, swiping through Tinder. After a few left swipes, Kit couldn’t believe her eyes, there was Sean. Kit swiped right and a few seconds later there was a match and the rest is history!
Sean proposed while they were in Les Houches, France, getting ready to hike around Mont Blanc (a two week hiking trip). Their bags with all their camping and hiking gear were lost on the flight over and they had one day to wait for them to arrive before they left for their trip. As they were sitting outside the hotel on the patio (staring at the driveway, waiting for the airline with the bags) in the only set of clothes they had, and that they’d been wearing for 48 hours. Sean went in to get a book to pass the time but he came out with champagne and asked Kit to spend the rest of her life with him.
As a photographer, I look forward to every wedding that I photograph but Kit and Sean’s held a special place in my heart long before the actual ceremony day. Kit’s family is the kind of family that, the minute you meet them, they are family in every great sense of the word. They take you in and make you feel like you’ve known them for years and their wedding was no different. It was the perfect, complete day full of love, beauty, family, outlaw country music, great food and just a little bit of chaos. It rained all morning but the skies cleared just as everything was getting set up (much to everyone’s relief) and turned into beautiful sunshine only to have the skies blacken and open up again minutes after the ceremony was over. But there was no storm or cloud that was going to dampen their spirits, they didn’t skip a beat (I hardly think they even noticed the weather honestly) and the storm turned into a HUGE, beautiful rainbow right behind the reception tent. Everything from then on was absolutely perfect. Speeches from family and best friends including long lost tandem bicycles, smiles, tears and dancing the night away. Surprise fireworks by Kit’s brother Jack and finishing everything with AMAZING late night pizza!
